IT Transition Overview

How Electric will support the transition from your former IT provider to Electric.

Updated over a year ago

Introduction

During implementation, Electric is happy to partner with new customers to transition them from their former IT provider to Electric. In this article, you'll learn the key milestones of this transition at a high-level, as well as factors to consider that may impact the process.

IT Transition Process

A typical transition will last approximately 4-5 weeks and will be supported by your Implementation Specialist and a dedicated member of Electric's Professional Services Team. During this time, we recommend continuing your relationship with your (soon to be) former provider. This will ensure your team has access to IT support while Electric helps you prepare for the transition.

Process Milestones

Obtain and evaluate information received from your outgoing IT provider.

Electric will need to meet your outgoing IT provider at the very beginning of new customer implementation for a discovery call. Through this conversation(s), Electric will develop a clearer understanding of your current IT environment so that we can formulate a plan for your transition.

Develop transition plan based on information provided to Electric.

During this time, we'll map out the requirements to successfully transition your company from your former provider to Electric. As applicable, we'll need to obtain administrative access to cloud accounts, and network hardware/servers at this stage.

Execute transition plan.

At this stage, Electric will remove existing software; including device management software presently owned by your current IT support and transfer all services licensed through the current IT support directly to your company or Electric. This, along with revoking access held by your former IT provider, will help to ensure security for your company moving forward.

Train your team to ensure they are prepared for the change.

We'll equip your employees with the resources they need to receive IT support from Electric in alignment with the package purchased by your company.

Impacts to the Transition

This section outlines factors that could impact the timeline or other areas of your IT transition.

Bundled Services

Your provider may bundle software and hardware as part of their base service package. Replacement solutions should be discussed with Electric so that they can be included in your transition plan.

Hosted Solutions

Your former provider may host hardware and/or software through their proprietary data centers or cloud infrastructure. To ensure functionality and support under Electric, it may be necessary to migrate these technologies elsewhere.

Additional Costs

Select transition projects may incur additional costs. This includes cloud migrations, new service deployment, transferring licenses, etc. You'll be notified of additional costs prior to execution.

Unsupported Technologies

The transition process may uncover technologies not supported by Electric. Some technologies may need continued management by your former provider until a project can be initiated to migrate to a supported solution.

Device Management Software

Electric will help remove legacy device management solutions from your devices to ensure successful enrollment with Electric’s technology (Jamf Pro or Kaseya).

End of Life Solutions

We may encounter hardware/software that have reached end-of-life (EOL) and are no longer supported by the manufacturer/developer. Electric will highlight the necessity to upgrade or replace EOL products and services.

Exiting IT Support Engagement

Delayed, inaccurate, or outdated information provided by your former provider can greatly impact the duration of IT transitions.
