How to Install Jamf Pro

Follow these instructions to install Jamf Pro on your Mac.

Introduction

Electric uses Jamf Pro, a Mobile Device Management (MDM) software to enable IT administrators to secure, control and enforce default security controls and applications on company-owned Macs. This article describes the process for installing Jamf Pro and provides troubleshooting tips.

⚠️ You may be asked to reboot your computer at the end of the installation. Please save and close any work/documents before completing the steps below.

Steps to Install Jamf Pro

The process for installing Jamf Pro will vary depending on the version of operating software (OS) on your device. Expand the header below that describes your current operating software to find the process that best suits your device.

Install Jamf Pro with MacOS Ventura

  1. Electric will provide an installation link via chat or email. Open the enrollment URL in Safari to begin installation. For best performance, use a private browsing window.

  2. Sign in to your company email account or single-sign-on (SSO) account.

  3. Once signed in, you will be asked to install the MDM profile for your company. Click Continue.

  4. Next, locate and double-click on the enrollmentProfile.mobileconfig that downloads from your browser to open the Profile Installation prompt.

  5. Open System Settings > Privacy and Security.

  6. Scroll down in the Privacy and Security window, then in the section labeled Others, select Profiles.

  7. Your downloaded profiles will appear, double click the MDM Profile.

  8. A message will appear asking you to confirm Are you sure you want to install this profile? Click the Install button.

  9. You may be prompted to install the profile again. Click Install.

  10. You will then be prompted to enter your device credentials. Enter your computer’s username and password. Click Enroll.

  11. Next, the profile will install. Depending on your device configurations, various prompts may appear during installation. Please Approve them to proceed with the installation.

  12. A "Welcome to Electric!" prompt will appear following installation. Click the Continue button to finish setting up remaining configurations. On some devices, this prompt may take a couple minutes to appear.

  13. This will complete the process. You may be asked to restart your device when the installation is complete.

Install Jamf Pro with MacOS Monterey (or earlier OS versions)

  1. Electric will provide an installation link via chat or email. Open the enrollment URL in Safari to begin installation. For best performance, use a private browsing window.

  2. Sign in to your company email account or single-sign-on (SSO) account.

  3. Next, you will be prompted to install the MDM profile for your company. Click Continue.

  4. This will download a file named enrollmentProfile.mobileconfig on your computer, locate and double-click the download to trigger the Profile Installation prompt.

  5. Open System Preferences > Profiles to install the enrollmentProfile.mobileconfig

  6. Click the Install button to begin the installation for the MDM Profiles.

  7. You will be prompted to enter your credentials to confirm the requested action. Enter your username and password, then click Enroll.

  8. Next, the profile will install. Depending on your device configurations, various prompts may appear during installation. Please Approve them to proceed with the installation.

  9. A "Welcome to Electric!" prompt will appear following installation. Click the Continue button to finish setting up remaining configurations. On some devices, this prompt may take a couple minutes to appear.

  10. This will complete the process. You may be asked to restart your device when the installation is complete.

Troubleshooting Tips

Below are solutions to the most common pop-ups or issues customers run into during this process. If you're experiencing something different and need help troubleshooting, submit a request to our Service Desk team via the Electric User Hub.

I don't see the Profile Installation prompt.

Navigate to your Downloads folder, double-click the enrollmentProfile.mobileconfig file. This will open up the installation prompt as pictured below.

Additional Prompts after Installation

Prompts associated with preconfigured policies, such as FileVault or ConnectWise, may appear at the end of the installation. FileVault will need to run at this time and cannot be deferred. Click Reboot, if applicable. To learn how to enable ConnectWise, visit this article.

Profile Installation Failed

If you see this alert it means there are still MDM Profiles that exist on your device that need to be removed. Follow the steps outlined in this article and, once completed, try to install Jamf Pro again.

Warning Message: Harmful File

Chrome may show a message that says “This file may be harmful”. Please click Keep, not Discard. This software is not a harmful file, but can be identified as such if you do not use Safari, Apple’s native web browser. Chrome is not optimized for Jamf Pro.
