Prepare a Laptop for Storage at Electric

Best practices for getting your laptop ready to ship to Electric for storage.

Updated over a week ago

Introduction

Before sending any device to Electric for storage, make sure it’s in good condition. Doing so will keep inventory updates timely and expedite device processing for you and your team.

Device returns are typically related to an employee offboarding and shipping is coordinated based on the offboarding requirements communicated to Electric by a company admin. If you need to return a device for another reason, contact Electric via the Electric User Hub.

Storage Preparation Steps

  1. Make sure the laptop is unlocked so that Electric can properly erase and restore it to factory settings. This includes signing out of all accounts (i.e. iCloud).

  2. Examine the laptop and make sure it’s free of major damages. Major damages include but are not limited to: malfunctioning screen, broken keyboard, and damage to the exterior/ports. See examples here.

  3. Remove all stickers or decorations from the surface of the laptop. Do not remove serial number labels.

  4. Wipe down screen and keyboard.

Failure to comply with the suggested preparation steps may result in the device being returned to the sender. Modified devices (i.e. devices with modified keyboards) may be subject to return. Customers will incur additional charges for any shipping/handling associated with the return of a device received by Electric in unacceptable condition.
