Gusto Integration

Introduction

Looking to connect Gusto to Electric? Electric supports Gusto as an HR source of truth through Merge, our secure integration provider.

Once connected, employee data from Gusto will sync into Electric to power onboarding, offboarding, and employee lifecycle automation.

Please note: Gusto is supported via Merge and is not a direct Electric integration.

How the Gusto Integration Works

Electric connects to Gusto using Merge’s secure OAuth authentication flow.

After connection:

  • Employee data syncs automatically from Gusto into Electric

  • Updates made in Gusto reflect in Electric

  • Sync occurs approximately every 1–2 hours

  • Employee status changes can trigger onboarding and offboarding workflows

Sync Frequency

The Gusto integration syncs approximately every 1–2 hours.

This is not a real-time sync. If changes are made in Gusto, please allow up to two hours for updates to appear in Electric.


What Data Syncs from Gusto?

The following employee data fields sync from Gusto into Electric:

  • First Name

  • Last Name

  • Home Address

  • Personal Phone Number

  • Work Email

  • Personal Email

  • Department

  • Role / Job Title

  • Employment Status

This data enables Electric to:

  • Automate onboarding and offboarding

  • Ship hardware to employees

  • Retrieve devices after termination

  • Assign applications based on department or lifecycle stage


Instructions

Connecting Gusto to Electric

Follow these steps to connect your Gusto account:

Step 1: Navigate to the Gusto Integration

  1. Log into Electric

  2. Navigate to the Gusto integration tile

  3. Click the three dots menu

  4. Select Connect


Step 2: Authenticate via Merge

  1. Click I am an admin

  2. Click Next

  3. Select Open Window

  4. Complete the Gusto login and authorization flow in the new window

  5. Follow the prompts to authorize the integration

Once authentication is successful, the integration will activate and syncing will begin.


Disconnecting Gusto

To disconnect the integration:

  1. Navigate to the Gusto tile

  2. Click the three dots menu

  3. Select Disconnect

Once disconnected:

  • Employee data will no longer sync

  • Lifecycle automation based on Gusto changes will stop

  • How long does the Gusto sync take?

    • The integration syncs approximately every 1–2 hours.

  • Do I need admin permissions in Gusto to connect?

    • Yes. You must be a Gusto administrator in order to authorize the integration.

  • What happens if employee data changes in Gusto?

    • Changes such as department updates, employment status changes, or contact updates will sync to Electric during the next scheduled sync window.

  • Is Gusto a direct Electric partner integration?

    • No. Gusto is supported through Merge.
