How to Remove Old Profiles from Your Mac

This article will teach you how to remove old profiles from Mac devices operating with earlier OS versions, such as Monterey or Catalina.

Introduction

Jamf Pro is the device management software used by Electric to automate and provide IT support to end users that work on a Mac/iOS device. To help with the migration to Jamf Pro, Electric will un-enroll you from your previous instance. However, this may not automatically remove your profiles from your device, in which case we would need your help to manually remove them. This 5-step process is detailed below.

⚠️ If your device has MacOS Ventura please follow the steps outlined in this article.

Steps to Remove Old Profiles from a Mac

  1. Click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of your screen.

  2. This opens a drop-down menu, select System Preferences from the list.

  3. Click Profiles. If this option doesn’t appear, proceed to Step 5.

  4. This will open a new window. Device Profiles will be listed on the left. All of these need to be removed. To do so, select the profile and click the minus button in the bottom left corner of the window (pictured below). You may temporarily lose WiFi connection when this step is completed.

  5. Once all existing profiles are removed, you are ready to install Jamf Pro.

🤔 Troubleshooting Tips

I followed the steps above but it didn't work, what do I do now?

  1. Open the Terminal app on your Mac

  2. Once Terminal is open, Copy/Paste this command: Sudo profiles remove -all

  3. Press Enter.

  4. When prompted, key in your password. You will not see any feedback on the screen when entering your password, that's ok!

  5. Press Enter.

This command may take a moment to complete. When finished, reboot your computer and proceed to installing Jamf Pro.
