Electric Device Management | How to Successfully Deploy MDM

Rolling out Jumpcloud Mobile Device Management (MDM) is an essential step in securing company devices and data. While the technology setup is straightforward, successful deployment depends on planning, communication, and internal ownership.

MDM enrollment requires individual action from every employee, which means timelines are driven by human behavior, not technology. This is true for any MDM deployment—unfortunately no tool can force employees to enroll without internal communication, deadlines, and follow-through.

Before you begin enrolling devices in MDM, please ensure you’ve completed configuration of Device Management in your Electric Settings in Electric.

What to expect

Once you’ve configured MDM, ~80% device enrollment is usually reached within 1–2 weeks after enrollment begins if you follow our recommended process. Full enrollment may take additional time due to PTO, executives, devices still enrolled on an old MDM, or device edge cases.

These timelines are driven by employee action, not tooling.

What makes MDM rollouts successful

Enrollment is most successful when it is treated as a company-wide initiative where leadership sets the tone, ownership is clear, and deadlines are enforced. Following this approach will significantly shorten rollout timelines.

Companies that complete MDM enrollment quickly follow these best practices:

  1. Designate a single point person responsible for driving enrollment. This person owns communication, tracking progress, and following up with employees who haven’t completed enrollment.

  2. Messaging comes from leadership, reinforced during an all-hands and is accompanied by consistent follow ups

    1. We find it helpful for companies to send an “Intro to Electric” email. If you have not done so already, we have create this template that you can use to help introduce us and what will be expected of your employees. We have a generic version of an email template here or continue reading to find our Executive Sponsor Email Templates below.

  3. Communications include a clear explanation of why MDM is required, a firm completion deadline and step-by-step instructions.

    1. We find the best way to share these instructions is to use our built-in enrollment email workflow from the Device Management page. Instructions can be found here.

How Electric helps

As part of your partnership with Electric, we:

  • Configure JumpCloud MDM with default security policies based on industry-recommended security best practices

  • Provide enrollment instructions and executive-ready comms templates

  • Offer enrollment and troubleshooting support for employees available at support@electric.ai

  • Allow you to trigger notifications and track enrollment progress from within the platform

  • Recommend you follow and execute our enrollment checklist below to plan, communicate and and track progress

Bottom line

MDM enrollment challenges are not unique to Electric or Jumpcloud — they exist with any provider because every employee must take action. With executive sponsorship, clear ownership, and Electric’s support, most companies complete enrollment quickly and move forward with a secure, scalable device environment.

  4. Establish a clear deadline and expectation for completion

  5. Reinforce that enrollment is mandatory for company systems and data

  6. Have executive sponsor send first email announcing the initiative (see template)

  7. Trigger enrollment instructions from Electric to all employees

  8. Track enrollment progress in Electric and follow up with non-compliant users

  9. Reinforce enrollment during an all-hands or team meetings

  10. Schedule dedicated time or a live enrollment session if needed

  12. Coordinate white-glove enrollment for executives

  13. Account for late enrollments due to PTO or leave

  14. Have executive sponsor send final email to any stragglers after deadline (see template)

  15. Track enrollment progress and follow up with non-compliant users:

    • Schedule dedicated time or a live enrollment session if needed

    • Coordinate white-glove enrollment for executives

    • Further engage employees with late enrollments due to PTO or leave

Executive Sponsor Email Templates

Executive Sponsor Email #1:

We recommend your exec sponsor send their first email on a Wednesday and give the team a one-week deadline [DATE]. This gives people who are out the first week time to complete the following week.

Alternatively have your executive sponsor send a modified version of our recommended Electric announcement email that includes a deadline for enrollment.

Hi team,

To continue strengthening our security posture, we’ve partnered with Electric to deploy device management software Jumpcloud MDM across all company devices.

What you need to do

You will soon receive an email from product-support@electric.ai with instructions to enroll your device. Please follow the instructions and complete enrollment by [DATE].

If you run into any issues, simply respond to that email and the Electric support team will help you complete enrollment.

Why this is important

This initiative helps protect company and customer data, ensures consistent security standards, and reduces overall company risk.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping keep our environment secure.

Executive Sponsor Email #2

We recommend your exec sponsor send this email to all employees the morning of the deadline [DATE].

Hi team,

This is a reminder to complete device enrollment by end of day today [DATE] if you haven’t already.

We’re working closely with Electric to roll out Jumpcloud device management, and adoption has been strong so far. Enrollment is required for everyone to ensure we’re applying security policies consistently across the company.

If you’ve already completed enrollment, thank you

If not, please complete it as soon as possible using the instructions provided. Electric support is available at electric@support.ai if you need help or have questions.

We appreciate your prompt attention to this.

Email #3

Have your exec sponsor send this email to only the stragglers, which can be identified by navigating to the People page and applying a filter to Devices = No. Recommend sending the following Monday and setting a deadline of two or three days [FINAL DATE].

Hi team,

Our records show that your device has not yet been enrolled in our required device security program.

As part of our partnership with Electric, we are standardizing device security using Jumpcloud MDM. Enrollment is required to maintain access to company systems and protect company and customer data.

Please complete enrollment by [FINAL DATE].

If you’re blocked for any reason (travel, PTO, technical issue, or device questions), reply to this message so Electric can assist and help resolve it quickly.

Thank you for taking care of this quickly.
