Electric IT Hub | Unenroll from Electric for Desktop and the MDM

Electric IT Hub | Removing the Electric App & MDM

Sometimes you need to completely remove Electric and MDM from a device—whether it's for an employee transition, device refresh, troubleshooting the initial installation, or simply because you want a clean slate on the device at hand.

Understanding the Removal Process

What Gets Removed

When you initiate the unenroll process, Electric performs a comprehensive cleanup:

Electric App Components:

  • Complete removal of the Electric for Desktop application

  • Deletion of all associated files and configurations

  • Cleanup of system-level integrations for the application

MDM Unenrollment:

  • Full removal of the device from MDM management

  • Elimination of all security policies and restrictions installed by the MDM

Local System Cleanup:

  • Removal of background services and processes

  • Deletion of temporary files and caches

Unenroll Methods

Option 1 (Recommended)

Admin Initiated Removal Link or Electric Initiated from https://downloads.electric.ai/app/disconnect

  • The easiest way to initiate a complete removal is through the asset (device) profile.

  • Once an admin navigates to the profile of the device, via the Actions dropdown in the top right of the screen, clicking on “Remove Electric App & MDM” will begin a clean up command from the MDM to the device directly without further end user action.

Option 2

Self Initiated

  • A user can start the unenroll simply dragging the app to the trash of the device. This is not always recommended, as it might create a discrepancy between the IT Hub interface and the actual status of the device, as the IT Hub may not immediately “know” about the local action taken to unenroll. Initiating from Electric ensures the records stay in sync.

Removal Instructions

Using the Removal Link

  1. Visit the Electric App download page: https://downloads.electric.ai/app/disconnect

  2. Click the link to initiate the removal process

Using the MDM Uninstaller from the Admin Action on Asset Profile

  1. Select "Remove Electric App & MDM" option from the Asset/Device profile actions inside the IT Hub

  2. Confirm your decision when prompted

  3. Wait for the removal process to complete by keeping the device online

What to Expect During Removal

  • Initial Confirmation: You'll be asked to confirm your decision to remove Electric.

  • MDM Unenrollment: The system will remove all MDM policies and protections.

  • File Cleanup: All Electric-related files and configurations will be deleted to the technical capability of the local device.

Timeline

  • Most removals complete within 2-3 minutes. Complex configurations may take up to 5 minutes.

  • Please make sure the device remains connected to the internet during the entire process to ensure there is no disruption to the process.

Important Considerations

After Removal

  • Device Status: The device will no longer appear in your organization's IT Hub

  • Security Policies: All Electric-managed security policies will be removed, and there will be no longer any remote actions like Wipe or Lock available to the admin.

Troubleshooting

If Removal Doesn't Complete

  1. Restart and Retry: Sometimes a simple restart helps clear any blocking processes

  2. Check Permissions: Ensure you have administrator rights on the device

  3. Contact Support: If issues persist, reach out to product-support@electric.ai
