Recommendations for updating your Electric-managed Apple device.

Updated over a week ago

End users will be prompted to perform operating system updates on their Electric managed Mac based on the compliance enforcement rules designated by your company. Read about Electric's best practices and recommendations below.

Updates should be made as soon as possible. If you are in the middle of a task, you do have the option to temporarily cancel the update prompt. The prompt will continue to pop-up every day until updates have been completed. You can also self-start the update in System Preferences > Software Update when most convenient.

Electric recommends that all users upgrade to the latest macOS version that has been approved by your company. Electric will only support the 3 most recent versions of macOS.

In some instances, prompts can be turned off. This is dependent on company-wide approval or approval for a subset of Mac computers. It is Electric's recommendation to keep these prompts enabled to ensure company Macs remain updated and secure. However, if you want to opt-out, contact your Customer Success Manager.

JamfPro does not have features to granularly schedule macOS updates. However, Electric can set a 'do not run' window so that the prompts do not happen during a specified time-frame. If you are interested in learning more, contact your Customer Success Manager.
