Admin Center | Device Management
Introduction
Welcome to the Device Management page in the Electric IT Hub — your central hub for all your laptops and desktops. It provides a clear and concise view of your entire device fleet, making it easy to monitor device health, identify potential issues, and streamline your IT management workflow.
Device Management Overview
What is Device Management?
Device Management helps you monitor and maintain the health and security of all company devices. This centralized dashboard gives you visibility into device compliance, operating system health, and security policy enforcement across your organization.
At Electric, devices are defined as hardware which can host mobile device management (MDM). These include desktops, laptops, and tablets.
Understanding Your Device Management Dashboard
Device Management Status
This section provides a high-level overview of your device fleet's security posture:
Devices at risk: Shows devices that don't meet your security requirements or have compliance issues
Devices unmanaged: Devices that aren't enrolled in your Mobile Device Management (MDM) system
Devices managed: Devices successfully enrolled and monitored through MDM
Unknown device status: Employees who may have devices that haven't been detected or reported to the system
What to do: If devices are at risk or unmanaged, prioritize enrolling them in MDM to ensure they meet security standards.
OS Distribution
This widget shows the breakdown of your enrolled Apple devices and their operating system health:
At End of Life: Devices running OS versions that no longer receive security updates. These pose the highest security risk.
Near End of Life: Devices approaching their end-of-support date. Plan upgrades soon.
Supported: Devices running current, supported OS versions that receive regular security updates.
Unknown: Devices where the OS version couldn't be determined.
What to do: Prioritize updating devices that are "At End of Life" to supported versions. Contact employees with these devices to schedule updates or hardware swaps.
Default MDM Policies
This section lists the security policies automatically enforced on managed devices as soon as they are successfully enrolled with Electric:
Firewall: Ensures the device firewall is enabled to block unauthorized network access
OS update settings: Configures how and when operating system updates are installed
Encryption (FileVault): Requires disk encryption to protect data
Lock screen: Enforces automatic screen locking after a period of inactivity
Gatekeeper: Controls which applications can be installed (macOS feature)
Password settings: Defines password complexity requirements
These policies are applied automatically to all managed devices. You can view detailed policy configurations from the card.
Assigned vs. Unassigned Device Tabs
Assigned devices: Devices that have been linked to a specific employee in your system
Unassigned devices: Devices enrolled in MDM but not yet associated with an employee
What to do: Review unassigned devices and match them to employees to maintain accurate device tracking and accountability.
Working with the Device List
Available Actions
Send MDM instructions: Push instructions to employees who need to get enrolled in the MDM.
Download: Export your device list data for all data available in Electric for reporting or analysis in external tools
Understanding Device Table Columns
MDM Status: Shows whether the device is managed, unmanaged, or not applicable. A non-reporting device is a device which has been disconnected for longer than 14 days.
Health: Indicates device analytics related to performance and security health.
OS support status: Displays whether the device's operating system is supported, near end of life, or at end of life
Name: The device's assigned hostname
Assigned To: The employee who is using the device
Serial Number: The manufacturer's unique identifier for the device
OS: The specific operating system version currently installed
Use the Customize columns button to show or hide specific information fields in your device list. This helps you focus on the data most relevant to your current task.
Finding the Employees and Devices When Issues Appear
There’s several data points in the cards and the table which aim to help direct action to the devices which need action. Here’s how to read them:
Device management status card:
#X / #Y Devices at risk
→ “X” should match the number of devices without MDM in this filter: https://my.electric.ai/device-management?page=0&tab=assigned&mdmStatus=NOT_MANAGED
→ “Y” should match the number of assigned devices in tab 1, and in the pill summary number.
#Z employees have unknown device status
→ “Z” should match the number of employees without device in this filter: https://my.electric.ai/active-employees?page=1&hasDevices=false
OS status card:
#N enrolled Apple devices
#M enrolled Windows devices
→ This should match the number of device types, whether assigned or not assigned, that are classified as a device (capable of being enrolled in MDM).
Getting Started
Review your device management status to understand your current security posture
Focus on devices at risk and work to enroll unmanaged devices
Address End of Life devices by scheduling OS updates with affected employees
